Abstract

Case Description: The primary subject matter of this case concerns management of information systems and technology. Secondary issues examined include mergers and acquisitions of hospitals. The case has a difficulty level of six, appropriate for second year graduate students. The case is designed to be taught in two (2) class hours and is expected to require three (3) hours of outside preparation by students. The case works well in groups of two to four students. Case Synopsis: Students are encouraged to evaluate Benevolent Health's (BH's) new acquisition strategy and resolve how Information Services management should change their process for evaluating a potential acquisition and integrating their information systems and technology into Benevolent Health's. BH is considering new acquisitions, which potentially could be larger and more mature than prior acquisitions. The case is based on actual hospitals, although names and places are changed to maintain confidentiality of involved parties.
